Why a full mock matters
Practice sets teach skills. A full mock tests stamina, timing and nerves, which is where many candidates lose half a band without realising it.
On the real day you move from Listening to Reading to Writing with only short breaks, and your concentration in the third Reading passage or the second Writing task is very different from how you feel in a fresh twenty-minute practice. A mock shows you:
- whether you can finish Reading in 60 minutes without rushing the last passage,
- whether your Task 2 essay is still clear after an hour of writing,
- which module drags your overall band down,
- how you behave under pressure: do you freeze, skip, or keep going?
How our computer-style mocks work
Most IELTS candidates now sit the computer-delivered test, so our 15 full mock tests are built to feel like it:
- A visible timer for each section.
- A question navigator so you can jump between questions and see what is unanswered.
- Flag for review, so you can mark a doubtful answer and come back.
- A highlighter and notes tool for Reading passages.
- Drag-and-drop for Matching Headings and word-box summaries.
- Instant band scores for Listening and Reading, plus AI-estimated bands and feedback for Writing and Speaking.
Each mock contains all four modules, and you choose Academic or General Training. You can start with a free IELTS mock test, a complete sample with all four sections and no card needed, from the practice tests page.
Exam conditions in a Surat home
Many Surat families live in joint households or above a shop, and a quiet three hours can be hard to find. A little planning makes your IELTS mock test in Surat far more useful.
- Pick the slot carefully. Early morning before the household wakes, or a weekday when the shop or unit is busiest and others are out, usually works better than evenings.
- Tell the family. Ask for no knocks, no tea interruptions and no television in the next room for the test window.
- Use a laptop if you can, since the real computer test is on a desktop screen and keyboard. Phone practice is fine for short sets, but a full mock should match the exam.
- Wear wired or well-charged headphones for Listening. Ceiling fans, traffic on the main road and festival music during Navratri or wedding season are all louder than you think.
- Keep your phone in another room and do not pause the timer. If you stop for a WhatsApp message from a customer, the score no longer tells you the truth.
- Type your Writing, because computer-test candidates type. Practise typing fluently without autocorrect.
Using your results
The score is the start, not the end.
- Listening and Reading: open every wrong answer. Was it spelling, a missed paraphrase, running out of time, or a NOT GIVEN trap? Your wrong answers are saved automatically to the Mistake Notebook for later review.
- Writing: read the band for each of the four criteria. A low Task Achievement score needs a different fix from a low Lexical Resource score.
- Speaking: read your transcript. Long pauses, repeated words and very short Part 3 answers are easy to see in writing.
- Put your four module bands into the free Band Score Calculator to see your overall score and how far each module is from your target.
How many mocks should you take?
There is no magic number, but a pattern that works for many students:
- One mock at the start to set a baseline.
- One every one to two weeks during preparation, with targeted practice in between.
- Two or three in the final fortnight, at the same time of day as your booked test.
If you are a college student in Surat, line your mocks up with your academic calendar: a lighter week after internal exams is ideal, while the week of semester exams is not. Working candidates can keep Sunday mornings for mocks, when most offices and many markets are quieter.
Taking a mock every day usually means you are testing more than you are learning. If your score has not moved in three mocks, stop and work on the module that is holding you back, or book a teacher session to find out why.
