IELTS Mock Test in Lagos: Full, Timed and Computer-Style

A full IELTS mock test is the closest thing to sitting the real exam before test day. With IELTS Learning you can take one from your room in Gbagada or your desk on Victoria Island, on screens that work like the computer-delivered IELTS.

  • 15 full mock tests
  • 88 Listening and 52 Reading practice sets
  • AI band feedback on Writing and Speaking
  • 1-to-1 teacher sessions from $5

Why a full mock matters more than another worksheet

Practising one question type at a time builds skill. A full mock builds something different: stamina, timing and the calm you need when the clock is running. Many Lagos candidates are strong readers but have never sat still and concentrated for nearly three hours without a break in focus. A mock shows you what happens to your Listening when you are tired, or to your Writing when you have only 20 minutes left for Task 2.

It also gives you an honest starting point. Your feelings about your English are not a band score. A timed mock is much closer.

This matters in Lagos, where many candidates use English every day at school, church and work and assume the test will be easy. Daily fluency helps, but IELTS rewards specific skills under time pressure: following a British speaker at speed, matching headings in a dense passage, and planning an essay in five minutes. Only a full mock shows how those skills hold up together.

How the IELTS Learning mock tests work

There are 15 complete mock tests on IELTS Learning, each with Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking, for both Academic and General Training. The screens are designed to behave like the computer-delivered IELTS:

  • a visible timer for each section;
  • a question navigator so you can jump between questions;
  • flag for review to mark answers you want to check;
  • a highlighter and notes tool for Reading passages;
  • drag-and-drop for matching headings and word-box summaries.

When you finish Listening and Reading, you see your band instantly. Writing receives an AI-estimated band for each of the four criteria with feedback, and Speaking gives you AI feedback on your transcript. The free sample mock includes all four sections, so you can try the whole experience before paying anything.

Taking a mock under exam conditions at home in Lagos

A mock is only useful if you treat it like the real thing. Lagos homes are rarely silent, so prepare the space:

  1. Pick your time. Early morning before the street wakes up, or late evening, often works better than a busy afternoon.
  2. Secure power. Charge your laptop fully and keep a power bank for your router or phone hotspot. If you rely on a generator, start before you begin, not halfway through Reading.
  3. Use headphones for Listening, and play the recording once only, as in the real test.
  4. Close everything else. No WhatsApp, no music, no dictionary.
  5. Do not pause. If the neighbour's generator starts or a call comes in, carry on. That is good practice for concentration.

Using your results properly

The score is the least interesting part of a mock. The useful part is the pattern behind it. After each test:

  • Open your Mistake Notebook, where wrong Listening and Reading answers are saved automatically, and write one line on why each error happened (spelling, a missed distractor, a time problem).
  • Read the Writing feedback criterion by criterion. A low Coherence and Cohesion score needs a different fix from a low Lexical Resource score.
  • Compare Speaking feedback with your own recording: were you hesitating, or simply speaking too fast?
  • Enter your section bands into the Band Score Calculator to see your overall band.

Then spend the following week on the two weakest areas, not on the ones you already enjoy.

How many mocks should you take?

There is no magic number, but a common pattern works for many students:

  • One at the start, to measure your level.
  • One every week or two during preparation, once you have practised the question types.
  • Two or three in the final fortnight, to build timing and confidence.

Taking a mock every day is usually less useful than taking one a week and studying the errors closely. If you have a lot of mocks left, use some as section-only practice: just Listening on the BRT, or just Reading at lunch.

Mock tests and the real test date

Once your mock results are consistently near your target, you are in a good position to book. Test sessions are available in and around Lagos through the official IELTS providers in Nigeria; check their sites for current dates and fees, since these change. Before the day, run through the Quick Wrap checklist so nothing practical catches you out.

Questions from students in Lagos

Is the free IELTS mock test really complete?

Yes. The free sample mock includes all four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. You do not need a card to take it, only a free account.

Can I take a mock test on my phone in Lagos?

You can, but a laptop is better for a full mock because the real computer-delivered test uses a full screen and keyboard. Use your phone for single sections or quick practice when you are away from your desk.

How accurate are the mock test bands?

Listening and Reading bands are calculated from your correct answers, so they are a good guide. Writing and Speaking bands are AI estimates; they are useful for spotting weaknesses but are not an official result, and a teacher session can give a second opinion.

What if the power goes off halfway through a mock?

Log back in when you can and continue from your account, but note that the interruption changes the test conditions. For your most important mocks, start only when your laptop and data source are fully charged.

Should I take mocks for both Academic and General Training?

No, only for the version you will sit. Reading and Writing differ between them, so practise only the track required by your university, regulator or immigration authority.
