Why a full mock is different from practice
Practice sets build individual skills. A mock test checks something else: whether you can hold your concentration through Listening, Reading and Writing back to back, close to three hours with almost no break, and then still speak clearly in the Speaking test.
Students often score well on single Reading passages and then lose marks in the full test because passage three arrives when they are tired and short of time. A mock shows you that problem while you can still fix it. It also shows how you handle the computer screen, the clock and the pressure of not being able to go back and redo a section.
How our mock tests work
IELTS Learning has 15 complete mock tests for Academic and General Training. Each one covers Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking, on screens built to behave like the computer-delivered IELTS:
- A countdown timer and a question navigator so you can jump between questions.
- Flag for review, so you can mark a doubtful answer and return to it.
- A highlighter and notes tool for Reading passages.
- Drag-and-drop for Matching Headings and word-box summaries.
- Instant band scores for Listening and Reading the moment you submit.
Your Writing receives an AI-estimated band for each of the four criteria, and your Speaking answers receive AI feedback on the transcript. Every wrong Listening and Reading answer goes into your Mistake Notebook automatically, so your review starts where it should: with the questions you actually got wrong. Because the mocks follow the official structure, the timing pressure you feel at home is close to what you will feel in the test room.
Start with the free sample mock test. It is a complete test with all four sections, and you don't need a card to take it.
Sitting a mock in a Lahore home
Exam conditions are harder to create in a full house than in a quiet test room, but it can be done.
- Pick your slot carefully. Early morning usually works best, before the household wakes up and before rickshaws, generators and street sellers get going.
- Tell the family. Three hours without interruptions, no tea brought in, no "just a quick question".
- Use a laptop if you can. If you plan to sit computer-delivered IELTS, a phone is too different from the real screen for a full mock.
- Plan for power cuts. Charge your laptop fully or plug it into a UPS, so the Listening section isn't cut off halfway.
- Headphones on, phone away. Put your mobile in another room, not face down on the desk.
- No pausing. If something interrupts you, keep going. The real test won't stop for you either.
In summer, sit in the coolest room you have. Heat and fatigue genuinely lower Reading scores in the last twenty minutes.
Using your results
A band score on its own tells you very little. The value is in the review:
- Listening and Reading: sort every wrong answer by type. Were they spelling slips, NOT GIVEN errors, or questions you never reached? Each needs a different fix.
- Writing: read the criterion with the lowest estimated band and choose one thing to change in your next essay.
- Speaking: read your transcript. Fillers, repeated words and very short Part 1 answers stand out clearly on the page.

How many mocks, and when?
Most students do best with somewhere between four and eight full mocks, spread across their preparation rather than packed into the final week:
- At the start: the free sample mock, to set your baseline.
- In the middle: one every one to two weeks, with plenty of skill practice in between.
- In the last fortnight: one or two, mainly to rehearse timing and confidence.
Taking a mock every day without reviewing it is busywork. One mock followed by a careful review teaches more than three taken in a rush.
Computer or paper in Lahore?
IELTS is offered in and around Lahore in both computer-delivered and paper formats. Many students find typing their essays faster and like seeing the word count, while others read more comfortably on paper. A couple of computer-style mocks will soon tell you which suits you. Check current availability, fees and dates on the official IELTS booking websites.
