IELTS Study Notes and Free Practice Material for Jeddah

There is no shortage of IELTS material online, but much of it is outdated, unofficial or simply wrong. This page explains what useful study material looks like, what you can use for free, and how to combine our notes with the official Cambridge books.

  • 15 full mock tests
  • 88 Listening and 52 Reading practice sets
  • AI band feedback on Writing and Speaking
  • 1-to-1 teacher sessions from $5

What good IELTS study material looks like

Students in Jeddah often collect folders of PDFs from social media groups, shared drives and messaging apps. Some of it is helpful. Much of it is copied, poorly formatted or based on an old version of the test. Before you trust any IELTS study material, check that it:

  • matches the current test format: 40 questions in Listening and Reading, two Writing tasks, three Speaking parts;
  • matches your version: Academic or General Training;
  • explains answers, not just lists them;
  • teaches strategy and language, not memorised templates or "secret tricks";
  • is honest about scores: nobody can guarantee a band.

The best notes are short, practical and connected to practice. A strategy you read today should be tested on a real question tomorrow.

It also helps to sort what you already have. Delete duplicate files, keep one trusted source for each module, and stop downloading new folders once you have enough. Many students in Jeddah spend more time collecting IELTS material than using it, and a smaller, well-chosen set studied properly will do more for your score.

Our Study Notes

IELTS Learning includes Study Notes: strategy chapters for each module, written to be read in short sessions. They cover topics such as:

  • how to approach TRUE/FALSE/NOT GIVEN and Matching Headings;
  • how to plan Listening answers in the pauses;
  • how to structure Task 1 overviews and Task 2 essays;
  • how to extend Speaking Part 2 answers without memorising.

Alongside the notes you get English Improvement lessons for grammar and vocabulary, spaced-repetition flashcards that bring back words just before you forget them, a Mistake Notebook that saves your wrong answers automatically, and a personal study plan that organises your weeks.

Using the Cambridge IELTS books alongside our tests

Many students in Jeddah also use the official Cambridge IELTS practice books, and that is a good idea. They are written by the test makers and give you real past-style papers. Our tests follow the same official format, so the two work well together.

A sensible way to combine them:

  1. Use the Cambridge books as checkpoints. Take one full test from a book every two or three weeks to measure progress.
  2. Use our practice sets for daily skill work. Short, focused sets with explanations, and your mistakes saved automatically.
  3. Use our mock tests for computer-style practice. If you are taking the computer-delivered test, practising on screens with a timer, navigator and highlighter matters.
  4. Do not reuse the same test too soon. Remembering answers gives a false score.

A weekly study routine for Jeddah students

Here is a routine that fits a typical week in Jeddah, whether you are studying at the University of Jeddah or Dar Al-Hekma, working long days near the port, or on hospital shifts. Adapt the days to your own weekend and working pattern.

  • Day 1: Listening set (30 minutes) + review mistakes.
  • Day 2: Reading passage (20 minutes) + one Study Notes chapter.
  • Day 3: Writing Task 1 + AI feedback.
  • Day 4: Speaking Parts 1 and 2 with the cue-card timer.
  • Day 5: Writing Task 2 + rewrite your weakest paragraph.
  • Day 6: Full mock test or a Cambridge book test.
  • Day 7: Rest, or a light review of the Mistake Notebook and flashcards.

Every day: five words from Daily Vocabulary, used in one spoken or written sentence. In summer, when the heat keeps people indoors through the afternoon, some students find early mornings or late evenings their most focused time.

Questions from students in Jeddah

Are your Study Notes free?

The full Study Notes are part of Full Access. Free users can still use the Quick Wrap checklist, the blog, Daily Vocabulary, the Band Score Calculator, a complete sample mock and sample Listening and Reading sets.

Do you sell or share the Cambridge IELTS books?

No. The Cambridge IELTS books are published by Cambridge and should be bought from proper sellers. Our own tests follow the same official format and work well alongside them.

Is it safe to use IELTS PDFs from social media groups?

Some are useful, but many are copied, outdated or full of errors. Check that the material matches the current format and your test version, and that it explains answers rather than just listing them.

How do I remember new vocabulary?

Use spaced repetition, reviewing words just before you forget them, and use each new word in a sentence you write or say. Our flashcards and Daily Vocabulary are built around this approach.

How much time should I study each day?

Most students do well with 45 to 90 minutes a day, five or six days a week. Regular short sessions usually work better than one long session at the weekend.
