What good IELTS study material looks like
Before you spend time on any book, PDF or website, check it against these points:
- Current format. IELTS has changed in small ways over the years. Very old material may include task types or timings that no longer apply.
- Answers with explanations. An answer key that says only "C" teaches little. You need to know why C is right and B is wrong.
- Track-specific. Academic and General Training Reading and Writing Task 1 differ. Material that mixes them without labels wastes time.
- Real timing. Practice should be timed like the test, including the 60 minutes for Reading.
- Good English. Photocopied model essays shared between students sometimes contain the same errors you are trying to remove.
Our Study Notes and tools
Our IELTS study notes are strategy chapters for each module, written to be read in short sittings. They explain how each question type works, what examiners look for and the common errors at each band.
Alongside them:
- Mistake Notebook: every wrong Listening and Reading answer saved automatically, so your own errors become your revision list.
- English Improvement: grammar and vocabulary lessons for students who want to strengthen the basics, useful if you moved from Tamil-medium schooling to English at college.
- Vocabulary flashcards with spaced repetition, so words return just before you are likely to forget them.
- Personal study plan built around your test date and track.
- Quick Wrap: a last-minute checklist for the final days.

Using Cambridge IELTS books alongside our tests
Many students use the official Cambridge IELTS practice books, and they are a sound choice. Our tests follow the same official format, so the two work together well rather than overlapping.
- Use Cambridge tests on paper if you are taking the paper-based test, or as a different style of practice.
- Use our computer-style mocks for screen practice, instant marking and saved mistakes.
- Alternate them: one full test from a book one week, one of our mocks the next.
- Review both the same way: group errors by question type and update your notes.
Writing and Speaking in printed books come with sample answers but no feedback on your response. That is where AI feedback and occasional teacher sessions add value.
One caution: do not memorise the model essays or Speaking answers in any book. Read them to study structure and linking, then close the book and write your own response to the same prompt. Examiners notice learned answers, and they rarely fit a new question well.
A weekly study routine for Madurai students
This routine assumes about an hour on weekdays and longer at the weekend. Adjust it around your timetable, clinical duty or job.
- Monday: Reading practice set, plus 15 minutes of Study Notes on a question type you got wrong.
- Tuesday: Listening set with headphones, then review spellings.
- Wednesday: Writing Task 1, then rewrite using feedback.
- Thursday: Speaking Parts 1 to 3, recorded, with transcript review.
- Friday: Writing Task 2, timed at 40 minutes.
- Saturday: Full mock test, or a Cambridge test, in one sitting.
- Sunday: Mistake Notebook, flashcards and a light rest.
Daily Vocabulary fits into any day, on the bus or before college.
Where Madurai students study best
Hostel rooms can be noisy, and homes in the old city rarely have a spare quiet room. College libraries, including the main library at Madurai Kamaraj University and those at individual colleges, are good places for Reading and Writing practice. Save Listening and Speaking for home, with headphones and a little privacy.
Because the platform runs online, your notes, mistakes and plan stay in one place whether you are in Madurai during term or back home in Sivaganga or Ramanathapuram during holidays.
