What good IELTS study material looks like
Anyone who has walked past the photocopy shops near Ashok Rajpath or in Musallahpur knows how much study material circulates in Patna. For government exams, thick notes make sense because the syllabus is huge. IELTS is different. It tests skills, so the best IELTS study material is:
- Short. A strategy for TRUE/FALSE/NOT GIVEN fits on one page. You do not need fifty.
- In the official format. Practice that does not match the real test can teach the wrong habits.
- Explained. An answer key alone does not tell you why you were wrong.
- Current. IELTS format details, such as the computer-delivered test, matter. Old photocopies can be out of date.
- Paired with practice. Notes without timed practice are just reading.
Be cautious with photocopied "guess papers" or "expected topics". IELTS does not work that way, and memorised answers are easy for examiners to spot.
Our Study Notes, module by module
IELTS Learning includes Study Notes: strategy chapters for each module, written to be read in short sittings on a phone.
- Listening: the four parts, predicting answers, spelling and numbers, map language, distractors.
- Reading: every question type with a method for each, timing, Academic vs General Training differences.
- Writing: how to describe each chart type, process and map; letter tone for GT; planning each Task 2 essay type; the four criteria explained in plain language.
- Speaking: what examiners listen for, building Part 2 answers, extending Part 3 answers, pronunciation basics.
Alongside the notes you get English Improvement (grammar and vocabulary lessons), spaced-repetition vocabulary flashcards that bring words back just before you forget them, and the Mistake Notebook, which works as your personal notes: every wrong answer saved automatically, ready to review.

Using Cambridge IELTS practice books alongside our tests
Many students in Patna also use the official Cambridge IELTS practice books, and that is a sensible choice. They contain past-style tests produced by the test makers. Our tests follow the same official format, so the two work well together:
- Save the Cambridge tests for full paper-style mocks, especially if you plan to sit the paper test.
- Use our practice sets for daily, targeted work on one question type, with explanations.
- Use our computer-style mocks to get used to the screen, navigator, highlighter and typed Writing if you will sit the computer test.
- Log mistakes from both in one place so you see patterns across everything you do.
Do not race through the books. One Cambridge test reviewed carefully is worth more than three done quickly.
A weekly IELTS study routine that fits Patna life
Whether you are a student at Patna University, on shifts at a hospital, or splitting your days between IELTS and another exam, a routine of about an hour a day works for most people:
- Monday: Reading practice set (one question type) + Daily Vocabulary.
- Tuesday: Listening set with headphones + review in your Mistake Notebook.
- Wednesday: Writing Task 2 with AI feedback.
- Thursday: Speaking Parts 1–3, recorded, + flashcards.
- Friday: Writing Task 1 + read one Study Notes chapter.
- Saturday: full mock test under exam conditions.
- Sunday: review the mock, rewrite one Writing task, rest.
On days you travel or have college exams, keep only the five-minute habits: Daily Vocabulary and flashcards. Consistency beats long weekend marathons.
Making your own one-page notes
At the end of each week, write one page by hand: your three most common mistakes, five new words you actually used, and one strategy that worked. After two months, those pages are the best revision material you will own, far more useful than a borrowed file of someone else's notes.
