IELTS Study Notes and Free Practice Material for Jalandhar

Jalandhar's bookshops and WhatsApp groups are full of IELTS material, and a lot of it is photocopied, out of date or simply wrong. This page explains what good study notes look like, what you can use free on IELTS Learning, and how to fit official Cambridge books into a weekly routine.

  • 15 full mock tests
  • 88 Listening and 52 Reading practice sets
  • AI band feedback on Writing and Speaking
  • 1-to-1 teacher sessions from ₹299

What good IELTS study material looks like

Before you download another PDF from a family group or buy a thick guide from a stall near the bus stand, check it against a few questions:

  • Is it in the current format? Listening with four parts and 40 questions; Reading with three passages and 40 questions; Writing with two tasks; Speaking in three parts.
  • Does it explain answers? An answer key alone tells you that you were wrong, not why.
  • Is the English accurate? Some locally printed material contains errors in model essays. If a model answer uses "discuss about" or "revert back", put it down.
  • Does it match your track? Academic and General Training differ in Reading and Writing Task 1.
  • Is it honest? Be cautious of "sure-shot" cue cards or "guaranteed questions". Real tests do not work that way.

In a city where IELTS is part of everyday conversation, it is easy to collect far more material than you can ever use. Three or four reliable sources, used properly, will do more for your band than a folder of fifty random files. The rest of this page shows how to build that small, reliable set.

IELTS Learning Study Notes

Our Study Notes are strategy chapters for each module, written to be read in short sessions:

  • Listening: predicting answers, spelling and number traps, following maps, staying on track in Part 4.
  • Reading: skimming and scanning, TRUE/FALSE/NOT GIVEN logic, Matching Headings, time management.
  • Writing: Task 1 overviews and key features, letter tone, Task 2 essay types, paragraphing, and how the four criteria are assessed.
  • Speaking: extending Part 1 answers, using the Part 2 minute, giving reasons in Part 3, and pronunciation focus points.

Alongside these, English Improvement covers grammar and vocabulary, and spaced-repetition flashcards bring back the words you are about to forget.

Using Cambridge IELTS books alongside our tests

Many students in Jalandhar already own one or more of the official Cambridge IELTS practice books, sometimes handed down from an older cousin. They are valuable, and you should use them. Our tests follow the same official format, so the two work well together:

  • Use Cambridge books on paper if you are taking the paper-based test, or for extra Reading passages.
  • Use IELTS Learning on screen to practise the computer-delivered format, with the timer, highlighter and drag-and-drop questions.
  • Use our Writing and Speaking feedback for the modules where a book's model answers cannot tell you how your own response would score.
  • Save the newest Cambridge tests for the last few weeks, so you have fresh, unseen material close to test day.

One caution: older books in a family collection are still fine for practice, but check that you are not relying on outdated advice in their introductions about test format or delivery.

A practical way to combine them: after each Cambridge test, enter your Listening and Reading scores into the Band Score Calculator, then type your wrong answers into your notes with the reason you missed them. Over a month, those reasons show you which Study Notes chapter to read next.

A weekly study routine for Jalandhar students

Here is a routine that fits around college, work or a family business. Adjust days to suit your week.

  1. Monday: one Study Notes chapter (20 minutes) and one Listening set.
  2. Tuesday: one Reading passage under time, then review in your Mistake Notebook.
  3. Wednesday: one Writing Task 2 with AI feedback.
  4. Thursday: Speaking practice: three Part 1 questions and one cue card with the timer.
  5. Friday: English Improvement lesson and flashcards.
  6. Saturday: a full mock test, or a Cambridge book test on paper.
  7. Sunday: review the week, rewrite one essay, and plan the next week.

Five minutes of Daily Vocabulary every day, perhaps while travelling between the city and Phagwara or Kartarpur, adds up to a strong word bank over a few months.

Questions from students in Jalandhar

Is there free IELTS study material on IELTS Learning?

Yes. Without a card you get a full sample mock test, sample Listening and Reading sets, Daily Vocabulary, the Band Score Calculator, the Quick Wrap checklist and the blog.

Do I still need Cambridge IELTS books?

They are not required, but they are useful extra practice in the official format. Many students use the books for paper practice and our platform for computer-style tests and Writing and Speaking feedback.

Are IELTS PDFs shared on WhatsApp reliable?

Some are, many are not. Photocopied or retyped material can contain errors, old formats or poor model answers. Check any material against the current test format before relying on it.

Are the Study Notes different for Academic and General Training?

Listening and Speaking strategies are the same for both. Reading and Writing Task 1 notes cover each track, since the texts and Task 1 differ.

How much time should I spend reading notes versus practising?

Keep notes short: about 20 minutes, then apply the strategy straight away in a practice set. Most of your time should go on timed practice and reviewing mistakes.
