The coaching scene in Jalandhar
Walk through almost any busy market road in Jalandhar and you will see IELTS banners next to travel and visa offices. Because demand from the Doaba is high, there is a lot of choice, from small neighbourhood batches to large institutes. We will not name or rate any of them. Instead, here is how to judge any IELTS course, including ours.
IELTS Learning is not a coaching centre. We have no classroom, batch or branch in Jalandhar. We are an online platform with practice materials, full mock tests, AI feedback and optional 1-to-1 online sessions with an IELTS teacher.
Classroom coaching: who it suits
Classroom IELTS coaching classes can work well if:
- You need a fixed timetable and someone expecting you every day.
- You are at an early stage of English and benefit from a teacher explaining grammar face to face.
- You like learning in a group and hearing other students' questions.
The limits are real too. A batch moves at the average pace, so a strong reader may sit through Reading lessons they do not need while their Speaking gets little attention. Practice tests in some centres are on paper, even though many candidates now take the computer-delivered test. And you need time to get there.
Online practice plus a teacher: who it suits
Self-paced online practice tends to suit you if:
- You already have a reasonable base in English and need targeted practice.
- Your schedule is irregular, for example college at LPU or NIT Jalandhar, work in a family business, or rotating shifts.
- You want to practise on screens like the computer-delivered test before test day.
- You prefer to spend money on specific help rather than a full course.
On IELTS Learning, you work through 88 Listening sets, 52 Reading sets, 104 Writing prompts and 186 Speaking prompts at your own pace, with explanations and AI feedback. When you want a human view, you book a 1-to-1 online session of about 20 minutes from ₹299, for example to have a teacher listen to your Speaking or go through an essay.
The honest downside is that online study needs self-discipline. Nobody calls if you skip a week. A personal study plan and a Mistake Notebook help, but you still have to open the app.
Combining the two
Plenty of students mix approaches, and that is perfectly sensible:
- Join a short classroom course for grammar and basic strategy if you need it.
- Use online mock tests to practise the computer-delivered format and to measure progress weekly.
- Book a teacher session for Speaking, since this is the module where a live listener matters most.
- Use AI Writing feedback between classes so you are not waiting a week for one essay to be marked.
What to look for in any IELTS course
Whether you are comparing IELTS classes in Jalandhar or online options, ask:
- Is the material in the real format? Four Listening parts, three Reading passages, two Writing tasks and a three-part Speaking test, with the correct timings.
- Will my Writing be marked against the four official criteria? A single number without feedback teaches you little.
- Do I get real Speaking practice? Repeating memorised answers to a group is not the same as being questioned.
- Are claims realistic? Be cautious of anyone guaranteeing a band. No honest provider can.
- Can I try before paying? A free sample tells you more than a brochure.
Time and money in Jalandhar
Getting to a class can quietly cost more than the fee suggests. If you live in Basti Sheikh, Adampur, Kartarpur or the Phagwara side, a return trip to a central institute can take an hour or more on an auto or bus, plus fuel or fares, five or six days a week. Over two or three months that is a lot of hours you could have spent practising. In the monsoon, when some roads waterlog and traffic crawls, the trip can take even longer, and a missed class is simply missed.
With online study, those hours go into actual practice. Full Access to IELTS Learning is ₹999 for 2 months as a single payment, and teacher sessions are booked only when you need them.
