Two ways to prepare
There is no single right route to a good IELTS score. What matters is how many hours of realistic, timed practice you do and how quickly you learn from your mistakes. Classroom coaching and online preparation get you there in different ways.
Classroom coaching
A batch class gives you a fixed timetable, a teacher in the room and classmates to practise Speaking with. For some people that structure is exactly what they need.
- It suits learners who struggle to study alone or who want regular face-to-face contact.
- It can help if your English foundations need rebuilding from grammar upwards.
- The downside: the pace is set for the group, not for you, and time is often spent on sections you are already good at.
Self-paced online practice
IELTS Learning is an online platform, not a coaching centre. You work through mocks and practice sets on your own schedule, and the platform tracks what you get wrong.
- It suits students and professionals with irregular hours, such as placement season at KIIT or rotating shifts in Infocity.
- You spend your time where your score is weakest.
- The downside: you need the discipline to sit down and practise without someone checking attendance.
The middle path: online practice plus a real teacher
The gap people worry about with online preparation is human feedback, especially for Speaking and Writing. That is why we offer Book a Teacher: roughly 20-minute 1-to-1 online sessions with an IELTS teacher, from ₹299 each.
A practical combination looks like this:
- Do the heavy lifting yourself: Listening and Reading sets, timed essays and recorded Speaking answers with AI feedback.
- Every week or two, book a teacher session to work on one specific thing, for example your Part 2 fluency or why your Task 2 essays stay at Coherence and Cohesion 6.
- Use the teacher's advice in your next round of self-practice, then check whether the AI-estimated bands move.
You get targeted human attention without paying for hours of group time you do not need.
The Bhubaneswar factor: commute and cost
Bhubaneswar is spread out. If you join IELTS coaching classes in Bhubaneswar, getting from Khandagiri or Tomando to a class near Master Canteen, or from Cuttack across the Mahanadi and Kathajodi, can take a large slice of your evening once you add Mo Bus waits, autos and peak-hour traffic on Janpath or the NH-16 stretch. Three classes a week can easily mean several hours a week on the road, plus fares.
For a student at IIT Bhubaneswar in Argul or NISER in Jatni, both on the city's edges, regular trips into town for classes are even harder to sustain. With online preparation those hours go into practice instead. Full Access is ₹999 for 2 months in one payment, and teacher sessions are booked only when you want them.
What to look for in any IELTS course
Whether you choose a classroom, an online platform or both, check for these:
- The real test format. Most candidates now sit the computer-delivered IELTS. Practise on screens with a timer, navigator and drag-and-drop, not only on paper.
- Full-length mocks. You need several complete tests, not just short exercises.
- Feedback on all four Writing and Speaking criteria, not just a single overall band.
- Separate Academic and General Training material, since the Reading and Writing papers differ.
- Honest claims. Be wary of anyone who guarantees a band. Nobody can promise your score.
- A way to track errors, such as a mistake log, so you stop repeating the same slips.
- Flexible timing. If your week changes with placement drives, internal exams or client calls, a fixed batch time may not survive the month. Ask what happens when you miss a class.
Who should choose what
- Choose classroom coaching if you need a rigid routine and your general English is still developing.
- Choose online practice if you already handle English at college or work and need test-specific training on a flexible schedule.
- Combine them if you are attending a class but want more full mocks and instant scoring than the class provides. Many students use online coaching for exam-condition practice and a class for basic grammar.
